GPT3 Playground: Easy Ways to Use in Marketing Research
If you’ve never used GPT3 Playground, the famous language model that writes so well, you might think it’s written by a human. There is a three-month free trial available through OpenAI Playground for anyone to try out.
In addition to being handy for tackling writer’s block, GPT3 Playground works like a personal writing assistant. The website appears to be designed for programmers, but we’ll show you that anyone can use it.
In November 2021, the waitlist for GPT-3 was removed, allowing more people to develop applications using OpenAI APIs. GPT-3 is accessible through the OpenAI Playground in a simple web version, which most people are unaware of. AI is being widely adopted to design chatbots for marketing automation by e-commerce, businesses, and agencies to automate the sales and onboarding process.
With the language model, you can write any type of writing task, from creating a clever video title to writing your profile bio. You might wonder, is GPT-3 the future of creative work after playing around with this futuristic AI?
Go to the OpenAI website and click on Get Started. Once you have created an account, you will need an email address and a valid mobile number to receive an authentication code. As a final step, you will need to explain why you want to use OpenAI.
Click Playground in the navigation bar at the top of the page to access GPT-3’s web interface. To the right of the text area, there is a setting bar and an area for typing.
Start With a Prompt in GPT3 Playground
You will need to enter a prompt for GPT-3 so that it knows what text to complete. Using the context provided, the model will try to finish writing an incomplete sentence or an instruction like “list top email marketing platforms“. In the results, there are
- Constant Contact
- Campaign Monitor
The results might be different on your turn but we got these results.
The language model should understand exactly what you are asking for if you design your prompt well. If you type “list top email marketing platforms for free,” you might get results like:
- Zoho Campaigns
- Constant Contact (60-day free trial)
- Benchmark Email (30-day free trial)
- SendPulse (15,000 free emails per month)
- Mailjet (6,000 free emails per month)
- Moosend (1,000 free subscribers)
- Omnisend (14-day free trial)
ChatGPT and GPT3 Playground: What is the Difference?
In case you are confused about the difference between ChatGPT and GPT3; ChatGPT was announced recently while GPT3 has been in use for a variety of contexts.
Both are large language models trained by OpenAI, and there are a few key differences. GPT3 (Generative Pretrained Transformer 3) is the third generation of the OpenAI GPT language model. It is fine-tuned for a wide range of natural language processing tasks, which include answering questions.
ChatGPT is a variant of the GPT3 model, designed specifically for chatbot applications. It is capable of inserting appropriate context-specific responses in conversations, which makes it more effective in natural conversations.
An important point to note here is that ChatGPT is not as powerful as GPT3, because it is more suited for chatbot applications. However, it is generally faster and ideal for chatbot applications.
But if your purpose of utilizing OpenAI is to perform marketing research and want to have more accurate and detailed ideas and responses, then you should go for GPT3 Playground.
Examples of Prompts for Ideas
Say, you run a fine dining restaurant in Chicago city on a business street. You are looking for a few marketing ideas and want to conduct marketing research about how you can position your restaurant over your competitors and attract customers. We asked GPT3 Playground “I run a fine dining restaurant in Chicago on the main business street. I want to position my restaurant over my competitors and attract customers. Please show me a few marketing strategies and how I can achieve it.“
We received the below response:
Response: “1. Utilize Social Media to Reach a Wider Audience: Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest are excellent tools for marketing your restaurant. Make sure to create engaging posts that showcase your restaurant’s menu, special events, and other offerings. Encourage customers to leave reviews, post photos, and share their experiences to build a positive online presence.
2. Offer Loyalty Programs: Loyalty programs are a great way to reward your customers and encourage repeat visits. Consider offering discounts, free items, or upgrades to customers who join your loyalty program.
3. Host Events: Hosting events like wine tastings, cooking classes, or special dinners can help to attract new customers and build relationships with existing ones.
4. Participate in Local Food Festivals: Participating in local food festivals is a great way to introduce your restaurant to potential customers. Make sure to include promotional materials, such as flyers and coupons, to help draw in customers.
5. Focus on Your Website: Your website should be informative, easy to navigate, and visually appealing. Make sure to include pictures of your menu items, contact information, and reviews from customers. You can also use your.” – end of quote.
Say you are interested in learning more about offering loyalty programs. We queried “Tell me more about the loyalty programs that I can implement in my restaurant.“
We received the below response:
Response: “Loyalty programs are an excellent way to reward customers for their continued patronage. Here are a few ideas for loyalty programs you can implement in your restaurant:
1. Points-Based Program: Offer customers points for each purchase they make, which can be redeemed for discounts, free items, or upgrades.
2. Referral Program: Offer customers rewards for referring new customers to your restaurant.
3. VIP Program: Offer customers exclusive discounts or access to special events in exchange for signing up for your VIP program.
4. Birthday Rewards: Send customers a special reward on their birthdays as a way to thank them for their loyalty.
5. Special Discounts: Offer customers special discounts for returning customers or for those who purchase a certain amount in a given time period.” – end of quote.
Similarly, you can submit another query to get more detailed feedback on ideas that you are interested in. Some ideas and responses might be useful for you while some might not be applicable. You can use the tool to conduct marketing research, but remember, don’t just rely on the responses, as GPT3 Playground only offer ideas and you will have to use your knowledge and brain to develop marketing strategies using the ideas you receive.
Fun Prompts to Try
If you want GPT3 Playground to suggest a few names for your pet dog, that’s just the beginning. It can also generate content, summarize information, and translate texts. Test out these prompts:
- In five different languages, translate “Thank you, the food was delicious!”.
- Thank a colleague who is leaving the company with a sincere note of thanks.
- Wish my younger sister a very happy birthday.
- Salmon, potatoes, onions, herbs, and couscous dinner options.
- Think of ideas for a forest-themed Nintendo Switch game.
AI is finding its way into all sorts of apps these days. Having an AI friend named Replika may pique your interest in GPT-3.
How to View the Fees and Monitor Your Usage
Take a quick look at your usage statistics before getting carried away with OpenAI Playground. Go to Personal > Manage account in the top right corner of the page.
Fees are calculated using tokens, based on how many words, or groups of characters, you use in a prompt as well as the GPT-3 text result. The bottom right corner of the text box area shows how many tokens you are using each time.
Upon conversion, tokens are converted into dollars, with $18 available for spending within the first three months. It’s a strange pricing model to get your head around at first, but it’s more than enough to get started.
Switching to Different GPT3 Playground Models
There are four different models you can choose from to power GPT-3: Davinci, Curie, Babbage, and Ada. To switch between them, select Model in the settings bar on the right.
It is set by default to the Davinci model, but selecting another model will save you money and speed up the process. If you want to understand the context and produce complex and creative answers, sticking to Davinci will be the best choice.
Below is a summary of what the other models are good for if you want to try them out at a lower cost:
- Curie: Requests are processed faster and cost less than Davinci. A few of its features include translating, answering direct questions, extracting important information, and summarizing technical information.
- Babbage: It is very fast, costs less, and produces great text if you provide it with repeated examples. Aside from finding straightforward patterns in text, it can also help you brainstorm ideas, complete sentences, and generate basic story plots.
- Ada: It is the fastest and cheapest model of the family. Use it if you do not require precise answers. The tool is especially useful for creative applications rather than generating precise and detailed information.
Following are the pricing of GPT3 Underground models
- Ada model cost $0.0004 per 1K tokens
- Babbage model costs $0.0005 per 1K tokens
- Curie model costs $0.0020 per 1K tokens
- Davinci model costs $0.0200 per 1K tokens
You Can Fine-tune the Results
To fine-tune results, you will want to adjust the Temperature setting. Temperature is like randomness; the closer to zero it is, the less random it is. The closer the text gets to 1, the more unpredictable it becomes.
You might think of zero as being cool, calm, and collected, while 1 would be hot, wild, and creative.
You will achieve better results if you understand this one setting. For example, if you want GPT-3 to “List 5 steps for baking a chocolate cake”, setting the Temperature closer to zero will produce the most logical results.
In the same prompt, we set the Temperature to 1 and the result was less exact, with GPT3 Playground not using numbered steps.
The Temperature will help you get more varied and interesting results if you choose to use OpenAI Playground to brainstorm YouTube videos or blog titles.
You can get a good result primarily by asking the right question, or by providing context, but you should also adjust the Temperature. Check out the best Chrome extensions for AI writing if you’re looking for more helpful writing tools.
